Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest Presents "Back to Bach" Concert
The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest will present an all-Bach program on Sunday, December 10, at 4 p.m. at Concordia University’s Chapel of Our Lord, 7400 West Augusta Street in River Forest. The concert will feature Chicago Symphony Orchestra bassoonist Dennis Michel on JC Bach’s Bassoon Concerto. Also on the program is JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 featuring SOPRF principals John Gerson on violin, Laurel Tempas on flute, and David Leehey on harpsichord. The concert will conclude with JS Bach’s Suite No. 4 in D major and Bach/Stokowski’s Passacaglia & Fugue in C minor. The concert is dedicated to the orchestra’s Concertmaster Emeritus Donald Schmalz, who died recently. The award-winning Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest is conducted by Illinois Association of Orchestras’ 2017 Conductor of the Year Jay Friedman. A free preconcert conversation will be offered at 3 p.m. and a reception will be held following the concert. Free parking is available in the garage at Bonnie Brae and Thomas just east of the Chapel.
