BREAKING NEWS: How Families Can Cope with Traumatic News in the Media and in Their Communities
There are benefits to having modern technology and information at our fingertips, but it can be overwhelming for both children and adults. Our webinar will provide an overview of how traumatic news such as hearing about COVID, violence, and terrorism, can affect you and your children and teens. We will also discuss how to best help everyone cope in the family. Special consideration will be given to helping children and teens who may be exposed to violence in their own communities, as well as how to help children and teens talk about and cope with the daily realities of racism and racial injustices. At the same time as the parent webinar, Smart Love is hosting two separate virtual youth groups (ages 6-11 &12 and older) to provide an opportunity for kids to share their feelings about difficult news that they see and hear in the media and to learn healthy coping strategies facilitated by child therapists. Age-appropriate interactive activities will be used to facilitate an open, supportive discussion.
