If you had to chose between buying food or buying tampons and diapers, which would you chose? This is the harsh reality many people face daily. Two years of Covid-19 and current inflation are exacerbating the ever-growing issue of food and feminine product insecurities in our local community. Thankfully the State of Illinois has removed the tampon tax. Sadly, it's not just low-income families having to deal with the struggle of affording basic necessities - college students do too. It's a nationwide issue that is gaining the attention it deserves. Thankfully, food banks are stepping up, but they need our help. No girl or women should miss work or school because she doesn't have adequate supplies to get her through the day.
You can help. The OPRF Chamber Women in Business Affinity Group is holding its annual Tampon and Diaper Drive this April. Kicking off on April 8, and culminating on May 13, you can donate tampons, menstrual pads, diapers ,and other feminine hygiene products to the Tampon & Diaper Drive that benefits the Community Fridge at Carnival Grocery on South Oak Park Avenue. No family should ever have to chose between rent and food, or diapers and menstrual products. Your donations to the Tampon & Diaper Drive will help. If you are unable to go to one of our six drop-off locations, please consider ordering from the OPRF Chamber WIB Diaper Tampon Drive Registry on Amazon.
