Karen M. Mayer, PhDc, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE
Ms. Mayer began her nursing career at Appleton Memorial Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin. After moving the Chicago area she predominantly worked for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (currently North Shore University Healthcare). She has more than 20 years of progressive experience in healthcare management from management of critical care and telemetry hospital departments at Appleton Memorial and Evanston Hospitals, and later a Senior Director of Nursing at Highland Park Hospital.
Since 2006, she has served as Vice President of Patient Care Services of Rush Oak Park Hospital. There she functions as the Chief Nursing Officer and oversees nursing and all therapies. Ms. Mayer is an adjunct faculty member of Rush University College of Nursing. She is also a member of both Dominican University and Resurrection University Nursing Quality Advisory Board.
As a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) she participated on the Hospital In Pursuit of Excellence (HPOE) Task Force to develop tool kits for reduction of hospital acquired conditions. Professional memberships include the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL), Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) & the Gamma Phi Chapter Honor Society of Nursing, and she is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Ms. Mayer is a Diploma graduate of Bellin School of Nursing, in Green Bay, WI, holds a Masters degree in Nursing Administration from Aurora University, and a Masters in Health Administration from National Louis University. She is presently a doctoral candidate in nursing with Rush University.
Ms. Mayer serves the community as a member of the Oak Park/River Forest Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is on the Executive Committee as the secretary, and is an active member of the Oak Park/River Forest Rotary Club. Karen has travelled yearly for short-term missions to Ukraine since 2013.
