Join us for a look back at the creation of Barbie, the world’s most iconic doll, presented by Renee Rosen, author of 9 books including Let’s Call Her Barbie. With rare photographs and years of in-depth research, Rosen takes us behind the scenes at Mattel. Back in 1956, the toy market was flooded with baby dolls. That’s when Ruth Handler and her creative rebels shocked the industry by introducing a doll shaped like a grown woman, designed to empower young children to be and do anything their imaginations would allow. Renee’s presentation will be followed with Q&A and a book signing. So wear your favorite pink outfit and prepare to take a fun trip down memory lane.
Renée is a native of Akron, Ohio and a graduate of the American University in Washington D.C. She lives in Chicago and is currently working on a new novel coming from Penguin Random House / Berkley in 2027.
