Heidi Ruehle once planned on becoming a well-heeled partner in an architectural design firm; however, after a few years in the industry her heart was pulled in a different direction and she has spent most of her career in the non-profit sector. Her professional journey has culminated in a position as the Executive Director of the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation in Oak Park, Illinois, combining her skills and experience in fund development, non-profit management and yes, even architectural design.
In addition to fundraising for the long-term preservation of Frank Lloyd Wright's recently restored Unity Temple, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ms. Ruehle develops cultural and educational programming and manages all of the day-to-day operations of the organization.
As a passionate advocate for social welfare causes, Ms. Ruehle volunteers with organizations serving refugees and the homeless. Community development is of special interest and Ms. Ruehle contributes time as a board member of the Oak Park River Forest Chamber of Commerce as well as Visit Oak Park (tourism bureau). She co-founded the United Village Arts Collaborative, participates in a grass-roots historic preservation group, and has been a volunteer docent at Frank Lloyd Wright's Home & Studio for ten years.
Ms. Ruehle lives in Oak Park with her husband and 12-year-old boy and girl twins, all of whom have been required to tour more than their fair share of historic house museums.
