About Us
Tenryukan Dojo is a martial arts school in Oak Park that teaches the traditional Japanese martial art called Aikido. Coming out of the Samurai tradition, the founder of Aikido has transformed those ancient techniques into a martial art that can effectively work, while also keeping the attacker safe from injury. We do not see an attacker as an enemy, but rather one who has lost their way.
Aikido uses balance displacing and joint manipulating techniques that are highly effective and also do not rely on physical size or strength. Aikido empowers everyone from the smallest to the biggest, and the youngest to the oldest. Part of this training also includes traditional Japanese weapons like a wooden Japanese sword, staff, and knife.
Aikido does not have competitions, but we do have rank testing as well as seminars and social events. Our black belt tests are certified from Hombu Dojo in Japan, where Aikido was founded.
Kids and parents can train together in our family class on Sundays at 2pm.
When in doubt? Try it out! First class is free.
We offer a 6 class introduction to Aikido for $60. Self defense classes are held on Fridays at 6pm.Video Media
